Certificate of Occupancy
A Certificate of Occupancy is required when a business has a name change, new owner or it is a completely new business (such as renting an existing building and opening a new business there). The application fee is $120. After the fee has been paid an time will be scheduled for inspection by the City's Building Department. During the inspection the plumbing and mechanical inspector, electrical inspector, building inspector and fire marshal will all be onsite to look over the building and make sure that everything is up to code.
Once the inspection has passed, we will send a release to CenterPoint Energy to turn on the electrical power to the building. You can fill out the Certificate of Occupancy (PDF) permit and bring it into our office and we will be happy to assist you.
