Memories of Early Deer Park

Excerpt from As I Remember

This book was written by those citizens who have lived in Deer Park for at least twenty years or more. As I Remember is a collection of their memories of those years.

The purpose of this book is to share their knowledge of our city's development with the community, as well as preserve the precious memories of our earlier citizens.

Their contributions make it possible for the community, their children, and grandchildren to realize and understand the proud heritage upon which the City of Deer Park was founded.

Billie K. Mann, Coordinating Committee Chairperson                                         Texas Sesquicentennial 1986

Barbara Wells

As I remember was edited by Barbara Yeary Weidig Wells. Barbara was a member of the Deer Park Bicentennial Commission in 1976. During that time, she authored Deer Park: A History of a Texas Town and Shell Deer Park made preparations for its 50th anniversary. Since the history of Deer Park and Shell were so closely related, she was commissioned to write Shell at Deer Park: The Story of the First Fifty Years, published in 1979. Without her commitment and dedication, so much of Deer Park's early history would have been lost.
