Eligibility Requirements

The Deer Park Police Department welcomes individuals that genuinely want to serve the public, whether it has been a lifelong goal or a recent calling. A career in Law Enforcement allows you to make an impact on the lives of the citizens you contact and potentially a difference in the community you serve. A patrol officer is charged with keeping the peace and enforcing the law, while conducting themselves in a professional manner utilizing the highest principles of police service. As such, patrol officers are sworn to safeguard the lives and property of all persons and act within the bounds of their authority and the realm of legality.

In order to meet the rigorous demands of duty, specific standards established by the department such as educational attainment, healthy mental state, physical norms, and a medical screening will have to be met. The following standards will aid in the determination of your eligibility or temporary/permanent disqualification for employment with the Deer Park Police Department. During the application process you will be required to successfully complete the following: 

Reading Comprehension Test 

Physical Exam 

Psychological Exam 

Polygraph Exam   

Physical Agility Test:

  • 29 Sit-ups in 1 minute
  • 22 Pushups in 1 minute (“Modified” form acceptable for females)
  • 300 meter run in 71 seconds 
  • 1.5 mile run in 17 minutes

Medical Screening:

  • Blood/Urine Test
  • Hearing/Vision Test
  • Lung Capacity Test
  • Push/Pull min. of 50lbs
  • Gas mask fitting
